Description

  • N-able Backup installation fails with error "Install Failed" in N-able N-central,
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\N-able Technologies\Windows Agent\logs\MSPBackupManagerMaintenance.log shows:
    • ERROR com.nable.agent.MaxBackupManagerMaintenance.MaxBackupManagerMaint *** ERROR *** Invalid reinstall parameters have been provided.
      ERROR com.nable.agent.MaxBackupManagerMaintenance.MaxBackupManagerMaint *** ERROR *** Installation failed. Failed to construct install command line parameters.

Environment

  • N-able N-central

Solution

  • Typically occurs during a reinstall of an older N-able Backup account. This can be resolved by manually installing N-able Backup.
  1. In N-able N-central dashboard, Edit device > Settings > Backup Management > Retrieve Passphrase
  2. Copy information listed into Notepad or similar text editor
  3. Download N-able Backup installer to device from N-able N-central dashboard under Actions > Download Agent/Probe > Third-Party Software
  4. Unblock downloaded installer
    • Right-click installer > Properties > Unblock > OK
    • If Unblock is not present, proceed to step #5
  5. Run installer as administrator
    • Right-click installer > Run as administrator
  6. When install page comes up in browser at http://localhost:5000, go through manual installation process using copied information from step #2
  7. Once Backup Manager initializes, wait 5 minutes and return to N-able N-central dashboard and check service status
    • If service still shows error or install failed, restart service and wait 15 minutes
      • services.msc > right-click Backup Service Controller > Restart
    • If service still shows error after 15 minutes, contact support
