How To Install N-able N-central on Amazon AWS EC2

Environment

  • N-able N-central 11.0 or newer.
  • Amazon AWS EC2.

Solution

  1. Login to the Amazon AWS Console, and select the EC2 Management Console.
  2. Select the correct region you want to deploy the server to, from the drop down in the upper right of the page (i.e. US East 1).
  3. Click Instances and click Launch Instance.
  4. Click Community AMIs and search for "N-central".
  5. Locate the image for the build number associated to the N-able N-central release you plan to deploy (e.g. N-central-11.0.0.1079 is N-able N-central 11.0, N-central-11.0.0.1106 is N-able N-central 11.0 HF1).
  6. Click Select.
  7. Select a suitably sized General Purpose Instance Type, based on sizing information from the System Requirements Guide.
  8. Click Next: Configure Instance Detail, then Click Next: Add Storage.
  9. Set the appropriate storage size for your instance based on sizing information from the System Requirements Guide.
  10. In the Volume Type drop-down list box, select General Purpose SSD (GP2).
  11. Click Review and Launch.
  12. On the Review Page, click Edit security groups.
  13. Create a security group. Open the inbound TCP ports 22, 80, 443, and 10000.
  14. Click Review and Launch, then click Launch.
  15. In the dialog box that appears, select Proceed without keypair from the drop-down list box and click to select the acknowledgement check box ( N-able N-central passwords are controlled by our Licensing system and adding a user here will prevent the system from activating the license).
  16. Click Launch Instances.

The new instance launches, and you are returned to the Instances page to view the new instance.

NOTE:
  • During the first boot of the instance, N-able N-central will resize it's disk to the size specified when you created the instance.
  • This process can take some time to complete and the UI will not be available until it completes.
  • As an example, a 100 GB disk takes around 10 minutes to expand.
