Solution

  • If problems are encountered by following the steps below, there may be a problem with the Backup Exec SQL instance or the Windows Database Components Open Database Connectivity (ODBC)
  • Please perform the following steps to test a connection to the Backup Exec SQL Instance:
  1. Create a new file with the '.udl' extension
  2. Right-click the new file
  3. Select Properties
  4. Select the Provider tab
  5. Select Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
  6. Select Next
  7. Select the Connection tab
  8. In the Select or enter a server name field, type the server name of the Backup Exec media server, then type a backslash, and then type BKUPEXEC (<server_name>\INSTANCEname)
    • NOTE: For example SERVER\BACKUPEXEC1
  9. Select Use Windows NT Integrated Security
  10. In the Select the database on the server list, select the appropriate database
  11. Select Test Connection, and verify that a successful response is received.
    • If there are connection errors, verify that the Backup Exec SQL instance service is running
    • If the service is running, verify that the SQL database connectors are present by running the Microsoft Component Checker, available on the Microsoft Web site
