Environment

  • N-able N-central
  • N-able RMM

Solution

  • To change the discovered name of the Windows device, please do the following (For more information on this, please go here):
  1. Locally on the device, open Control Panel.
  2. Navigate to the System section.
  3. Under the Computer name, domain and workgroup settings section, select Change settings.
  4. In the System Properties window, select Computer Name tab.
  5. Select Change....
  6. In the textbox titled "Computer name:", enter in the new name for the device.
  7. Select OK.
  8. Select OK.
  • In N-able N-central :
  1. Navigate to the device view.
  2. Settings >Properties.
  3. Uncheck Use Discovered Name.
  4. Enter the new name of the device.
  5. Save.
  • N-able N-central always uses the original discovered name of a device for data consistency, but will record new information for the device. This option allows accommodation for device name changes without impacting data consistency.
