Description

  • How to Monitor N-able Backup standalone via N-able N-central,

Environment

  • N-able N-central All Versions
  • N-able Backup

Solution

  • Need to monitor standalone N-able Backup installs, you can do this on N-able N-central using the methods below:
  • Within N-able N-central there are two services and three service templates that can be utilized to support the monitoring of N-able Backup
    • N-able Backup Product Status - This service will collect information about the version that is running and the status of that version. One of the thresholds is designed for the integration and will show as warning for a device that is running N-able Backup as standalone
    • N-able Backup Status - This service will provide most of what you see in the standalone dashboard. It is also designed to add instances of the features that are being backed up. Files and Folders, System State and Total Backup. As other features are enabled, more instances will be added.
  • There are also three Service Templates for each device class in N-able N-central, each named N-able Backup Manager Monitoring on [Device Class]. You can use these service templates to apply the instance automatically to your standalone device under management for N-able Backup.
  • You could also add some extra monitoring for these devices using the Windows events that are written to the device.
    • By adding the `Windows service' service - if you need to check if the backup service is running on the device. Service name is Backup Service Controller
    • By adding the `Application and services logs' service - basically adding this service and identifying the Event IDs below and then setting up notifications for this after.
  • Event ID's for Started operations:
    • 10 - Backup FP started
    • 51 - Backup started
    • 52 - Restore started
  • Session Status Event ID's:
    • 101 - In progress
    • 102 - Failed
    • 103 - Aborted
    • 105 - Completed
    • 106 - Interrupted
    • 107 - Not started
    • 108 - Completed with errors
    • 109 - In progress with faults
    • 110 - Over quota
    • 111 - NoSelection
