- How to install an agent/probe on windows Server core edition?
Environment
- N-able N-central
- Windows Server Core 2008 R2 and 2012
Solution
- Installing an Agent or Probe on a Windows Core Server requires .Net 4.0 will need to be manually installed.
- To do this, use the following steps as guide, however it is suggested that you consult a Windows Administrator in advance.
- We also suggest that you confirm that Windows Core Server is up to date with the latest Service Packs and Patches prior to the Agent\Probe installation
- To Install the Agent/Probe on a Windows Core Server:
- Open a command prompt in the Administrator context.
- More about enabling features on Core operating systems:

- Turn on WoW64.
- Turn on the.NET 2.0 layer.
- Turn on .NET 2.0 layer for WoW64.
- Download the .NET Framework from the following location:
- http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=22833 Note: By default, no web browser is installed with Windows Core. Consider using FTP or a flash drive to import the necessary files.
- Once the .NET Framework is installed, you may need to reboot the host server, then the agent/probe can then be deployed to the host server and operate normally.
- Download Probe from agent/probe download under actions.
- Push the installer into host server.
- Install the agent/probe.
