Solution

Download Dell Compellent Custom services package from the N-ableMe.
Downloaded document contains how to import services and create filter/service template and rules.

Run a Discovery Job against the SANs

  1. Login to your N-able N-central server
  2. Click on Views -> All Devices View
  3. Click on one of your Dell Compellent SANs
  4. Click on Settings -> Monitoring Options, and make sure that all of the SNMP-related settings are configured correctly
  5. In the top right-hand corner of the N-able N-central UI, click Add Task -> Update Asset Info
  6. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for all of the Dell Compellent SANs in N-able N-central
  7. Click on Views -> Job Status, and filter the page to find the Discovery Jobs that were just created
  8. Wait for the Discovery Jobs to complete before moving on to the next section

Create a Filter to find the SANs

  1. Login to your N-able N-central server
  2. At either the SO or System level, navigate to Configuration -> Filters
  3. Click the Add button
  4. Give the Filter a name (recommended: ***Dell Compellent SANs)
  5. Configure the Filter so that it looks for the following criteria:

OS -> Reported Name -> CONTAINS -> Compellent
  1. Click the Preview button to verify that the Filter successfully finds your SANs
  2. Click the Save button

Create a Notification Profile to Alert you to any Issues

  1. Login to your N-able N-central server.
  2. At the SO level, navigate to Configuration -> Monitoring -> Notifications.
  3. Click the AddNotification button.
  4. Give the Notification Profile a name (recommended: Dell Compellent SANs).
  5. Configure the Notification Profile to alert whoever in your organization should receive SAN-related alerts.
  6. Click the Save and Continue button.
  7. Click the Add button.
  8. Give the Trigger a name (recommended: Compellent SAN Hardware Issue).
  9. Enable the Notify on Return to Normal option.
  10. In the Services section, move the following services to the Selected Items widget:
    • Fan Status (Compellent)
    • Physical Drive (Compellent)
    • Power Supply (Compellent)
    • RAID Controller Status (Compellent)
    • Volume Status (Compellent)
  11. Click the OK button.

Create a Rule to Automatically apply Monitoring to the SANs

  1. Login to your N-able N-central server.
  2. At the SO level, navigate to Configuration -> Monitoring -> Rules.
  3. Click the Add button.
  4. Give the Rule a name (recommended: Dell Compellent SANs).
  5. On the Devices to Target tab, choose the ***Dell Compellent SAN Filter, and move it to the Selected Filters widget.
  6. On the Monitoring Options tab, do the following:
    • Choose the Dell Compellent SAN notification profile, and move it to the Selected Notification Profiles-Triggers widget.
    • Choose the Dell Compellent SAN Service Template, and move it to the Selected Service Templates widget.
  7. On the Grant Customers & Sites Access tab, configure the options as best suits your business.
  8. Click the Save button.
