Fix false positive ESX failed services

Description

  • ESX Service checks are failing but service is running
  • No errors showing in VMware client or Vcenter

Environment

  • All versions of N-able N-central

Solution

Although the VMware client or Vcenter may report everything is green, the watchdog service may need to be restarted before this is accurately reflected in N-able N-central,.

To resolve this issue, clear warnings and errors from the Hardware Status tab in VMware vCenter Server and perform the steps provided below:

  1. Go to Hardware Status > System event logview > click Reset event log.
  2. Click Update to clear the error. and then choose Alerts and warnings view.
  3. Click Reset sensors.
  4. Click Update to clear the memory.
    Note: If the error does not clear, connect to the host via SSH. For more information, see Enabling root SSH login on an ESX host (8375637).
  5. Run this command to restart the sfcbd service: services.sh restart
  6. Run this command to restart the service in ESX: /etc/init.d/sfcbd-watchdog restart
  7. Click Update.
