Error: 201 The agent has never checked in or it hasn't been installed

Description

This article describes the issue when the Agent Status service is showing a status of Misconfigured. When opening the service, it displays the following error message:

Error: 201 The agent has never checked in or it hasn't been installed.

Environment

  • N-able N-central 10.0 and later

Solution

This indicates that the agent failed to install during the discovery process. The possible causes for this error could be due to the following reasons:

  • The probe was shutdown before the agent was installed.
  • The target device was shutdown before the agent was installed.

There are two options to resolve this issue:

Option 1 - Re-discover the device:

  1. Delete the device from N-able N-central .
  2. Add a new discovery job, entering the single IP address of this device.
  3. The device should be automatically imported into N-able N-central and an agent must be automatically deployed.

Option 2 - Manually install the agent on the device:

  1. Delete the device from N-able N-central .
  2. Log on to the remote device.
  3. Download the Customer Specific agent.
  4. Install the Customer Specific agent.

Note: Verify if one of the procedures you performed has fixed the issue:

  1. Search from the All Devices View:
    1. If you cannot find the device, select Add and check the import list.
  2. Verify that the agent status service is in Normal state.
