Description

This article describes the process to configure monitoring applications on clustered Windows servers. This article assumes a 2 node cluster, however, the same principals will apply to clusters with higher number of nodes.

Environment

  • N-able N-central

Solution

For a 2 node cluster you will have 3 devices in N-able N-central, 2 physical nodes and 1 cluster node.

  1. Use the probe to discover physical node 1.
  2. Use the probe to discover physical node 2.

Note: The probe will automatically install agents on each physical node. The agents will monitor the properties of each physical node, anything that does not move with the cluster.

Warning: Make sure that you do NOT use the probe to discover the cluster IP address.
  3. Manually add a third device to N-able N-central, Servers - Windows device class, use the cluster IP address. Do NOT install an agent on this device. Use the probe to monitor this device. The probe will monitor any service or property that will move between the nodes. The cluster IP address remains the same so it will continue to monitor no matter which physical node it is attached to.

The same process can be used for a 3 or more node cluster.

You should now be able to monitor applications on clustered Windows servers.
