Configure SNMP Windows Service of a server

Description

This article provides steps to configure SNMP Windows Service of a server to enable Hardware Monitoring.

Environment

  • N-able N-central

Solution

  1. In Windows, click 'Start' > 'Control Panel' > 'Administrative Tools' > 'Services'.
  2. Double-click 'SNMP Service'.
  3. Select the 'Security' tab.
    • Note: if you have just installed the SNMP Feature, this may not be visible until a reboot occurs.
  4. Under 'Accepted Community Names', click 'Add'.
  5. In the 'Community rights drop-down list, select 'READ ONLY'.
  6. Enter a Community Name', for example, public.
  7. Click 'Add'.
  8. Select 'Accept SNMP Packets from any host' and click 'OK' (you could also lock this down to only the Probe).
