Configure Help Desk Manager to use an existing SSL certificate (Windows)

Description
This article describes how to upload an existing SSL certificate to Help Desk Manager.
Environment
- N-able N-central
- Help Desk Manager 12.1 and later
Solution
Edit The HDM Config File
1. Open the HDM installation directory.
Windows: C:\Program Files\N-able Technologies\Help Desk Manager\conf\
2. Open the whd.conf file in a text-editing program such a Notepad.
3. Search for #HTTPS_PORT=443 and uncomment by removing #.
4. Search for DEFAULT_PORT=80 and comment by adding # (OPTIONAL).
Stop The Web Help Desk Service
1. Click on the Start menu, and then select All Programs.
2. Select the Help DeskManager folder.
3. Right-click on the Stop Help DeskManager shortcut.
4. Select Run as administrator from the menu.The DOS Prompt Window will appear. When the command is complete, move on to next step.
Start The Help Desk Manager Service
1. Click on the Start menu, and then select All Programs.
2. Select the Help DeskManager folder.
3. Right-click on the Start Help DeskManager shortcut.
4. Select Run as administrator from the menu.
Configure Web Help Desk to Force HTTPS
1. Click on the Start menu, and then select All Programs.
2. Select the Help DeskManager folder.
3. Select Help DeskManager from the listing of Help DeskManager shortcuts. The Help Desk Manager application is opened in a new browser window.
4. Click on the Setup icon from the toolbar.
5. Click on the General menu.
6. Click on Options.
7. In the Force HTTPS field, select Always.
Export Wildcard Certificate from Microsoft Management Console
Refer to Export a Certificate and Export a certificate with the private key.
Import Wildcard Certificate Into Portecl�
1. Open the HDM installation directory.
Windows:
C:\Program Files\N-able Technologies\HelpDeskManager\
Linux:
/usr/local/N-ableTechnologies/HelpDeskManager/
2. Open the Portecl�.bat file. The Portecl� application opens in a new window.
3. Click on File, then click on Open Keystore File.
4. Navigate to the HDM Configuration directory.
Windows:
C:\Program Files\N-able Technologies\HelpDeskManager\
Linux:
/usr/local/N-ableTechnologies/HelpDeskManager/
5. Select the keystore.jks file, and click Open. The Password for Keystore `keystore.jks' screen appears.
6. In the Enter New Password field, type changeit.
7. Click OK. A keypair named tomcat will appear in the Alias Name column. This keypair was created automatically by Help Desk Manager. To continue, you must replace it with a new keypair that is configured for your domain.
8. Right-click on the tomcat keypair and click Delete.
9. Click on Tools, and click on Import Trusted Pair. The Import Trusted Certificate window appears.
10. In the Look In field, navigate to a publish share (i.e. \\servername\share\wildcard_bundle.pfx) where you stored the exported certificate from the Certificates MMC and select the file.
11. Click on the Choose button. The PKCS #12 Keystore Password screen appears.
12. In the Enter Password field, type changeit.
13. Click OK. The Key Pair Entry Alias screen appears.
14. In the Enter Alias field, enter the alias tomcat.
15. Click OK. The Key Pair Entry Password screen appears.
16. In the Enter New Password field, type changeit.
17. In the Confirm New Password field, re-enter the password. The Import Key Pair screen appears. The message reads, Key Pair Import Successful.
18. Click OK.
19. In the Portecl� application, click on the File menu.
20. Click on Save Keystore.
Stop The Help Desk Manager Service
1. Click on the Start menu, and then select All Programs.
2. Select the Help Desk Manager folder.
3. Right-click on the Stop Help Desk Manager shortcut.
4. Select Run as administrator from the menu. The DOS Prompt Window will appear. When the command is complete, move on to next step.
