Description
- How do I set N-able N-central to show a FQDN or an IP address for a device?
Environment
- N-able N-central
Solution
N-able N-central can show either a device's IP or its FQDN in the All Devices view or in the device's blue details pane. This setting can be changed using the Network Address parameter either per device using the Network Address field under Settings > Properties, or en masse using the All Devices View > Edit function.
However, the Network Address parameter will be overwritten by the Update Monitored Address option if selected under Settings > Local Agent for devices with an agent installed. This option, by design, compares the Network Address setting with the value provided by the agent as the current local IP of the device. If the two are different, the Local IP of the device is put into the Network Address field.
Support generally recommends using Update Monitored Address in DHCP environments to help make sure accurate addresses are being used for the devices. However, if you are confident that DNS resolution and DHCP Scavenging configuration mean that FQDNs will resolve to accurate addresses, you may choose to leave this turned off and use FQDN as the default Network Address value.
