Description
- This article details the steps on how you can change the Domain Administrator credentials used by the N-able N-central Probe.
- Some companies have security policies that require Domain Administrator credentials be changed frequently
- In such cases, there are specific steps that needs to be performed on the N-able N-central Probe device for the credentials to be updated properly.
Environment
- N-able N-central
Solution
- The only secure method to update the credentials used by a probe requires reinstalling the probe with the activation key method.
- This allows the probe to correct its service credentials as well as its functional use of the account for monitoring.
- Reinstall the Probe
- Log into the Windows device where the Probe in question is installed using the new account or newly updated account with the new password,
- Open N-able N-central and download the generic probe installer,
- At the Service Organization level navigate to Administration > Probes,
- Click on Download Windows Probe,
- This should download the generic probe software named WindowsProbeSetup.exe
- Go to the Customer level for the probe you want to update, then go to Administration > Probes
- Click on the name of the probe you wish to update
- Click on the System Communication tab,
- Copy the Probe Activation Key,
- Run the installer and when prompted select the Activation Key method and paste the Probe Activation Key into the installer, then continue normally with the installation.
- NOTE: Since this is a reinstall, you will typically be prompted to uninstall the existing probe as part of the install process. Simply accept that and let the installer run.
