Description

The Agent status within N-able N-central is in a purple, Misconfigured state with the message reading:

The Windows Agent has never checked in or is not installed

Environment

  • N-able N-central 9.5+

Solution

As the message hints, this is the result of the Windows Agent having not checked in to N-able N-central either due to a Network issue or because the agent services aren't running.

More commonly, however, this message is prevalent when a device is created within N-able N-central, but does not have an agent associated to it. To find the cause of the message:

  1. Click on the device name to view device details.

  2. In the horizontal navigation bar, click SettingsLocal Agent.

  3. Under INSTALLATION & UPGRADE DETAILS, review the Status section.

    If the status reads --:
Verify whether you have Manual selected from the Install Local Agent > Using: drop-down box. If this is the case, N-able N-central is waiting for you to install the agent on the device yourself. You can do so using the Activation Key method.

If the status reads The Remote agent installation is in progress:
The Agent is being installed by the probe and should be finished shortly.

If the status reads 210 Unable to connect to remote network resource. \\<IP Address>\ADMIN$ User= DOMAIN\User Exception = 53 : The network path was not found?:
This is indicative of the probe being unable to connect to the admin share on the device (\\<IP Address>\ADMIN$) to install the agent using the account specified (User= DOMAIN\User). Most commonly, this is due to the probe having the wrong account/password combination to connect to devices remotely. If you need assistance changing the probe's credentials, you can do so using our article Change Probe's Username and Password.
