Description
- How to set up Sender Policy Framework (SPF) for MSP Manager?
Environment
- MSP Manager
Solution
- Sender Policy Framework (SPF) is an email-validation system designed to detect email spoofing by providing a mechanism to allow receiving mail servers (MTA) to check that incoming mail from a domain comes from a host authorized by that domain's administrators.
- The list of authorized sending hosts for a domain is published in the Domain Name System (DNS) records for that domain in the form of a specially formatted TXT record.
- Email spam and phishing often use forged "from" addresses, so publishing and checking SPF records can be considered anti-spam techniques.
- When sending emails from the MSP Manager application (not through an external server), is is needed to add the following into the existing record:
- include:spf.mspmanager.com
- E.g. The TXT record for spf.example.com would change from: v=spf1 include:spf.mtaroutes.com -all to v=spf1 include:spf.mspmanager.com include:spf.mtaroutes.com -all
- For more information of setting up SPF records, see the N-able Mail Assure documentation
